I could update about how it's the end of the quarter and it's been the quarter from hell which steals my soul... but if I talk about it more, I'll just get more paranoid. So, hey! Let's talk wedding crap.
Date is set, as previously mentioned (May 29th). Location is set, we've booked a small lodge at a local park. Plenty of parking, nearby restrooms, full kitchenette with fridge, big back porch - it's pretty sweet. Officiant has been found - one of Meridan's friends is obliging. He's something of a junior politician, pagan, and willing to do it for free, so there you go. Invitations are being made by me, because I'm a DIY idiot. I'm also cheap, and while I love the pretty designs from professional artists, I can't afford them. So, I'm making my own with a template I found online. I hate using the paper cutter, but I have to admit, they're turning out pretty cute.
Dress was another story.
I'm not a dress girl. I never fantasized about what dress to wear when I was little, I never paid the slightest attention to that kind of thing. So, when I got engaged, it was my first foray into wedding wear.
Eugh. That's all I can say about the vast majority of wedding dresses. Eugh.
I dabbled extensively with the idea of both making my own dress and buying one online. I decided too much was hinging on this thing to attempt a dress, since I'm not great at reading patterns. And with online, I just didn't know what I would get until it came, and I didn't feel safe with the idea. So scratch that crap.
I was nervous at the idea of going to a dressmaker's, mainly because of cost. At first, I wanted a 50 dollar dress. Then, I upped it to 100. By last week, I was comfortable with the idea of a 200 dollar dress, only because it seemed like I wasn't going to be able to get anything decent for less than that.
So, with a $200 price point in mind, I went to Doria's, a local dress shop. It was stocked for prom, so it was full of shiny colored things, which already made it awesome in my book. But then, I noticed all the bodices on the walls. I asked Doria about getting one of those and a nice flowy skirt, and she was all over the idea. Plus, it'll come in at about $200 with tax, probably. And she told me the prices before I said anything about my budget, so I know she wasn't bullshitting me.
Awesome experience all around. I'll be going to try stuff on when Shen comes into town, probably. And then she'll fall in love with some foofy maid of honor dress, and it'll be hilarious. I guess I should probably get some of that horribly constricting, inhumane underwear before then.
So, yeah. I've got a date, a venue, an officiant, invitations, a wedding website with registries, and I've got a dress place. I guess I'm having a wedding. Huh. :)
