kungfufighting: (when tamaki attacks)
Ohh, dear.  I have an interview on Sunday for crochet instructor at Michael's, and I have to finish this damn hoodie so I can wear it to the interview.  It's only 1/4 done.  Aaagh.  But it's going to be so fucking cute, and I have to bring work samples anyway, so there you go.

Exciting!

Item 1:  The Crazies I Know

My mother's best friend came over this weekend to take pictures of our house.  Apparently, her husband will be installing some shelves for us.  Fine.  Beforehand, I told my mother that I would be in my room while she was over, and that since I didn't need any shelves and I was in the middle of cleaning out my closet, I wanted her friend to leave my space alone.

I have huge, massive, dinosaur-sized issues with this woman.  Shen has met her - she knows just how much I dislike her.

Of course, she came into my room.  She actually opened the door without knocking, looked around, and then started taking photos.  I was unbelievably offended.  We even got to have a lovely conversation:

Her:  Yeah, you need shelves.
Me:  Actually, I don't.  I have two bookcases.
Her:  Sure, but you should have them.  It'd make your room look just like your own little studio!
Me:  It's not a studio.
Her:  But it could be!
Me:  Nope.  For starters, there's no lock on my door.

I think she got the point.  She did hug me at some point, though.  Augh.

Item 2:  Hoodie Fevah

Tonight, I'm having a crocheting marathon.  I finished my new bag, now I need to work on the hoodie.  It's been a challenge for me, since it's not technically from a pattern, but rather a woman with a very cool website who designed it and documented her process.  Luckily, she's almost exactly my size, so I was just able to go with her directions.  And, because I found a place that posts Joann coupons online, I have a bunch of 40% off any item coupons good through the 18th, so I just go back every day to buy another skein of yarn.  It's wool, it's a beautiful color, and it's only costing me $1.50 a skein.  A hooded cardigan based off of a very, VERY expensive Anthropologie item that I'm only spending about $10.00 on.  It's a beautiful thing.

I just hope I don't fuck up the hood, though.  That's always a possibility.

The girl who created the sweater is fucking awesome.  She actually made a hat based off of Jayne's from Serenity.

I ended up winning the bamboo hooks from eBay.  8 hooks of solid bamboo for $13.00.  I'm fucking stoked.

Non-related crochet note:  I'm of the opinion that if your grandmother made you an afghan, you go to hell if you sell it at a garage sale.  Am I wrong?  I mean, I just caught a rerun of the last Top Design episode and I was thinking to myself, we keep so much old crap in our houses, and yet... how terrible could it be to just keep your grandmother's afghan in a closet instead of selling it?  I understand not putting it out.  It was an ugly one.  But your grandmother fucking made it.  Maybe I'm just over-sensitive because I'm crafty myself.  But to me, something like an old homemade blanket is a legacy, not a garage sale item.  For shame.  Put it away, but at least keep it.

Item 3:  Derek Jacobi = God

So, because I'm incapable of crocheting or doing anything with my hands without something in the background, I usually choose something from the DVD collection that I've seen a few times already, just to have something to listen to.  Tonight's choice will be Cadfael, because as I stated above, Derek Jacobi = God.  Don't ask me why a miniseries about a crime-solving monk is so fascinating... it just is.  IT JUST IS.  And you can call me Susan if it isn't so.

Last night, it was Newsradio.  Night before, Black Adder.  I have a weird sense of humor.

Item 4:  Because I Was An Only Child For 12 Years

I've decided that during spring break, after all the insanity in my life has settled down, I'm going to spend the week really seriously improving my knitting skills.  I want to start making hybrid projects, and I also want to make a few more sweaters.  Crocheted sweaters aren't all that fabulous, so knitting it is.  Actually, it's probably because I hate not being good at any sort of craft.  I think I have a problem.  I'm high maintenance, if you never realized.

I will always stick by the notion that anything you can knit, you can crochet too.  But some things are so much nicer when you knit them.  I don't know.

I also want to knit my own socks, just for the hell of it.

So, I will conquer you, dastardly purl stitch.  I've read your book, you magnificent bastard.

Item 5:  Hugh Laurie = Smokin'

Of course House didn't have cancer.  Duh.  And that kiss with Cameron?  GROSSICKYEWNASTY.  I kept screaming, "COOTIES!" at the screen.  Cameron cooties.  Eeewww.

However, the scene with House & Cuddy hugging?  Funniest thing I've seen ever.  Hugh Laurie's timing with the ass grab was unbelievably perfect.  That was a quintessential House/Cuddy moment, and I loved it.

So, to sum up:  House & Cameron = EW.  House & Wilson = Still my ultimate, but it's a long shot.  House & Cuddy = Just Right.

Item 6:  This Entry Is Finished Now

See above.
