so hip hop.
Oct. 2nd, 2008 04:45 pmAfter watching nearly 5 entire seasons of Project Runway over the years, I have learned this - artists who say that their work is awesome or fantastic usually have much better personalities than those who define their work as "the best". It's a small difference, but think about it. When you listen to someone constantly talk about how their product is better than someone else's, what are you really being told? Why bother defining your work only by comparison?
It's like campaign ads. You can either talk about what the candidate has done, or you can talk about what the opponent hasn't done. But the latter always leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, personally.
Do I compare myself to other people? Of course. But I like to think that I'm realistic and that I don't just blindly consider myself better than anyone else.
So, for those of you who don't know how Project Runway and Fashion Week works - obviously, Fashion Week was last month. Because of the time delay and because of how long it takes to actually make a collection, to keep it secret, usually the last 5 or 6 designers show collections. That means that even though we know Joe and Suede are already gone this season, they got to make and show collections. It's a bit of a lucky thing for them in my opinion, because even though they know when they get up there that they were eliminated already and they aren't up for the prize, people will get to see their work and they have something of a chance to attract buyers.
I won't link to any specific websites, but you can see the collections from the top 6 this season if you poke around on the Internet. It's worth looking, cause in my opinion you can tell that the previous eliminations were justified. Yeesh.
Speaking of sewing, I was going to make a Halloween costume this year, but not getting a paycheck until the 15th is going to make it a bit too hard, I think, what with school and work. We'll see. I'm definitely going to save up for a new sewing machine after I finally get a laptop. It's lovely and everything working on a machine that used to be my great-grandmother's, but it's also, well, old and temperamental, much like she was.
Trapped at home this evening with Ari. I see macaroni and cheese and bad television in my near future. I have to make myself practice Japanese so I don't feel too bad about missing class.
