yammer yammer blah
Nov. 21st, 2009 07:52 amThe snore machine is in full swing. Therefore, I have taken to my desk, where I shall put on headphones and attempt to ignore the bearlike rumbles.
I bought some Theraflu for Meridan the other day because of his poor throat. And I got carded. WTF? I don't even know half the crap that kids are trying to abuse these days. Working for KGB, I get a lot of "can such-and-such get me high" questions, which can get downright ridiculous. One kid thought that Tums could make you hallucinate.
For crap's sake, it can't be that hard to get pot, can it? I'm probably a bad person for saying it, but I wish they'd just smoke some pot and stop trying to fuck around with this kind of shit.
Money is so damn tight this Christmas. It's hard going through the stores and seeing all the decorations and whatnot, knowing I can't afford any of it. I bought a roll of non-denominational wrapping paper today - that was it. But there's always next year.
I got to do my monthly grocery shopping today - not just the weekly visit to Trader Joe's for staples, but my hardcore, stocking-up Grocery Outlet visit as well. I have no idea how we got all that food in the freezer. I've been getting lazy lately and just telling Meridan to bring home fast food on his way home from work, and that crap has to stop. I have a brand-new Crock Pot (thank you, Macy's charge card, THANK YOU), and I plan on using it at least once a week.
That's the thing about the money - I'm saving so that I can eat real food. I can either buy books and toys and crap and then live off of mac and cheese, or I can enjoy the things I have already, spend my extra time cooking, and enjoy my food! :)
We have both got to eat better. It's gotten ridiculous. I learned today that people aren't supposed to be eating more than about a teaspoon of table salt a day. To achieve that kind of low level, all processed foods are pretty much out of the question. The problem really isn't the salt we use in cooking or for already made food - it's processed foods.
That's the thing about those Weight Watchers meals and stuff - they might be low calorie, but what does that matter when the sodium and chemicals are enough to kill a horse?
Meridan and I are still really young to be thinking about all these things, but what good will it do to wait until after we get into trouble health-wise? We've both got weight to lose - his snoring is most likely because he's gained some weight, according to his doctor, and my back and knees are killing me this winter.
Step One: NO MORE SODA. For reals. This case is the last. I'll probably still have a little now and then, maybe when I go out, but I'm not buying any more cases to have at home. I've got plenty of replacements now - I have water (obviously), Trader Joe's sparkling flavored mineral water, tea, and Emergen-C. I don't care all that much about the caffeine, but I do want to cut out as many artificial sweeteners as I can. The sparkling water thing is really cool - the stuff from TJ's has no calories or sugar, but the carbonation helps me fool my brain into thinking I'm drinking something soda-like.
Kicking these bad habits is key.
Also, I have dental insurance now! Soon as the card comes in the mail, my ass will be out the door and at the dentist. I don't know how long Meridan will be working for ACS, so I gotta get everything fixed while I can.
Sorry for the ramble. I'm awfully tired, but what with the snoring, it's pretty hard to get any sleep until Meridan leaves for work, so I end up babbling on LJ all night long. Enjoy. :P
