Meridan and I were leaving campus today when the car in front of us stopped abruptly on a 50 mile per hour road. We had absolutely no time to stop, and even though Meridan slammed on the brakes, we rear ended that car. Apparently, there was a bird in the road, which is why the car in front of us stopped so quickly.
We weren't following him closely at all, but at 50mph, it's like slamming your brakes on the freeway - there's simply no way to avoid an accident.
The Tercel is totalled - the whole front end was crushed. We have no insurance, and even if we did, it wouldn't be worth it to fix - we only paid $500 for it, and it needed new tires anyways. But Meridan is still really sad about it, and I am too.
Meridan had the airbag, which went off, so he's pretty much okay. But I was bent down tuning the radio when it happened, so I smashed my nose against the dashboard. It's pretty much broken - I look like a prize fighter at the moment. I was supposed to go to the ER afterwards, but hey, no insurance there either. Yippee.
So, now we're driving my mom's car for the time being. My dad is going to give us a little money when he gets paid, and we'll have a little too by then, so I'm hoping to find something driveable for around $500 again.
My day has not been awesome. But at least we're relatively okay.
