food ramblings
May. 4th, 2010 10:40 amIt is all kinds of nasty out today. Hopefully, it will get better. Yes.
The cable was out at our place all night last night. Very irritated - I had an online homework assignment due that I of course couldn't finish. That C in math is looking more and more realistic.
Meridan has changed his schedule temporarily - for the next month, he'll be working Saturdays, but have Fridays and Sundays off. His work offered him an incentive regarding his prior absences to make the switch, so we both figured it was worth it. Plus, I don't work Fridays, so he can pick me up after class and we can still have a nice rest of the day together.
Also, Meridan's been getting a lot of comments at work about all the Trader Joe's food he brings for lunch. Heehee. He's always busting out these fancy wraps or soups or whatever, and when he told curious people where he was shopping, they all assumed Trader Joe's was too expensive to shop at. NOT SO. I save tons of money there, and the food is far tastier. I'm so happy we have a TJs now.
Looking over my lunch today, for example, I think the only thing that wasn't from Trader Joe's or the local fruitstand is the little wedge of Laughing Cow cheese I like to eat with crackers. Wow.
FYI, I also attribute my ability to have such delicious lunches to the fruitstand. Meridan and I go every weekend and stock up for the week. While I'm at school, I usually eat about 3 servings of fruit and 1 to 2 servings of veggies in my lunches and snacks, and if I attempted to buy all that at the grocery store, I'd go broke. Trader Joe's has some good produce, but their section is super tiny because the entire store is a bit small - it's like a mini TJs, really. So, we go to Jay's, and the entire week's worth of fruits and veggies is usually about $10-15. That shit's hard to beat.
Started using my pedometer today, and on a normal school day, I walk about 2 miles. Not bad.
Since we got the streaming Netflix disc for the Wii, I've been able to cut our actual DVD part of the plan down to 1 DVD at a time. Honestly, we rarely watch the DVDs, but the streaming option has a ton of stuff that we would have watched anyways. Meridan is now addicted to Farscape, and I have so many episodes of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain that it's just NUTS.
Saving money everywhere. I know it seems funny, but since moving out by ourselves, Meridan and I are doing better with money more than ever. Our power bill is low, our cable is also low, we're cooking far more (amazing what a working kitchen will do to your desire to cook), and we're spending much more time at home. I like it. :)
