Feb. 16th, 2007 01:03 amSo, I finally showed my father the broken iPod right before he went to bed last night. He looked at it for a minute and then said to look on Apple's website and check out the warranty information. Of course, surprise surprise, Apple doesn't cover any type of accidental damage whatsoever. Basically, they only fix frozen iPods for free. Anything else, any other sort of damage would have cost $149.00 plus shipping.
Now, I know it's just the LCD that's broken, so I went to see how much it would be to get a new screen installed somewhere else. After looking around and reading a few tutorials, I realized that it wouldn't be as difficult to take apart the pod as I thought. Since I found a place that has an even brighter LCD for only $39.95, this sounded like the best option. However, I figured it would freak my father out to suggest such a thing, so I started formulating an argument.
He called me this afternoon to ask what I had found out, and when I oh-so-tentatively suggested fixing it myself, he was shockingly agreeable about it. He said we could order the part no problem, and that he would give me a hand with installing it or do it for me if I preferred. The whole thing, with the part, shipping, and the one tool needed to open it that I don't already have, will only run me $50.00.
Since I found out last night that the hard drive is still okay, this should be the only part that needs replacing. Rock. I will fix it, and then it will promptly be stolen from me once again. Awesome.
I don't know if I agree with this week's Top Design elimination. It panicked me to no end to think that Goil might be going since he was on the crappiest team, but luckily for him, he got to focus on all the construction, which was the only good part of his team's design. Elizabeth's colors were gross, but so many other people sucked this week... I'm not sure that she was the suckiest. Of course, Ryan and Carisa have to stay, because they hate each other now, so that's entertaining. Great. Not for me, people. I want to see the ten minutes per episode of actual designing, which is why I tape the episodes and make full use of the fast forward button.
Aw, damnit, the printer's out of paper.
