yes, we did.
Nov. 6th, 2008 02:20 amWell.
As I said to my mother when I called her up near tears last night, we don't have to move to Canada now.
Having been unable to get to a computer until this evening, I was greeted with TONS of happy entries on my f-list, and it was a lovely sight. You guys all said it better than I could.
Aleph was kind enough to transcribe portions of our evening here - let me assure you, you are not wrong in assuming that the more vulgar quotes are most likely mine.
With all the successes last night, the passing of Proposition 8 seems to be even more of a kick in the face, though. Party foul, California. Party foul. I truly hope that it gets overturned. God knows this country can never make the full step towards humanity - we have to inch along the path in sometimes pathetic increments.
My little brother was ecstatic, and that more than anything makes me happy. I love that this will be the first election he remembers, because that election will be just as important as the first election he ever votes in. I remember distinctly the 1992 and the 1996 elections, which is probably why I managed to get through my first two voter-eligible elections without giving up entirely. Happier times did exist, I promise you young kids.
I'm also very happy that the good news was delivered to us first by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. It gave it that little extra pizzazz. :P
Okay, okay. I'm done. Just... thank you all for voting. My demographic did me proud. Also, a note to my fellow Washingtonians - NODINOOHTHANKGODNODINO.
